Today we drove and drove and drove, and we could mostly see the road. Sigh...It poured rain like I haven't seen since Hawai'i. Only here, the Kansas(ites?) continue to go at least 65 mph and I don't think they need to see the road - they must know it by heart.
Silos are the primary landmarks out here. You can see them in the distance like we can see the high rises of Sacramento from the foothills. We were able to stop for Chinese food in Kinsley and had a nice conversation with the owner. Kinsley is the mid-point of the US with 1561 miles to both NY and SF. Somewhere in town there is a sign about it, but in the pouring rain and driving wind, we didn't search for it.
More silos...
This is what most of our day looked like, although here you can actually see the road. It was especially exciting when a big rig would pass us in the opposite direction - woosh! splat!
We had a nice steak diner at Montana Mike's. This seems to be the special event place for the local folks. We're in cattle country, and it seemed like a good time to try the local specialty. Their onion rings were especially good.
We're really looking forward to Kansas City and we should arrive tomorrow. We're hoping to spend two nights there so we can have a day that is not mostly driving. The big part of Kansas City is in MO, and there are lots of Triple-D sites to seek out. Forecasts predict more rain tomorrow, but sunny and in the 80s on Friday.
